Hi Tom, Excuse my ignorance but what does "DD(E)" stand for?
I have both the butt plate and strap for a MKI Bren, what I need is the little bracket that attaches to the Butt plate and which the shoulder strap fits onto via a pin.
Regards, Albert

~Hi Albert despite spending many days scanning them in I have a bizare mental block on what the letters actually stand for! What they are are the engineers drawings used to manufacture the small arms components (from the smallest screw to the largest part of a AA mounting like for the Motley.
Kev, what the hell does D.D(E.) stand for?
I'll get my old machine to talk to the new one and send you the ones for the butt plate unless some one has them easier to hand?
Back before the Armouries took over the Pattern Room Library they let me copy over a thousand sheets of non presure bearing parts, mainly MG accesories.

Tom,I always took DD(E) to stand for Design Department (Enfield) but I could be wrong.
I will put up the drawing in a bit as I use it as reference to make my own brackets (cheers Tom).Bare in mind Albert that the drawing shows the bracket complete with top bracket section of butt plate and internal retaining catch as per original manufacture.

Hi Tom and Kev, Thank you very much for the explanation. Worse case we can make some up here, wondering if someone across the pond has already made some up and would like to sell a few? Best regards, Albert

No Worries!
Kev, could you please put up the pics of the internal parts and the section that shows the hole in the but plate, just for the sake of completeness and incase some one wants to file out the weld that they used to fill the hole like on some MK I plates I have seen. Cheers!
Atb

Kev.: As a 'Lockie' 1969-89 I can confirm that D.D.(E) does indeed stand for Design Department (Enfield). We celebrated the Golden Jubilee of D.D.(E) 1 in 1972. This drawing was dated 22nd February 1922 and was titled 'Rifle, Magazine, Rimless Cartridge, .303".' There were 2 sheets 'Body for Testing Resistance Shoulders' and 'Components - Testing Resistance Shoulders.' D.D.(E) drawings continued until the mid 1980s (eg the 5.56mm L85A1 rifle was D.D.(E)33170/G/509) when the prefix was superseded by RDC(E) for 'Research and Design Centre (Enfield)' but the numbering sequence continued. The last RDC (E) drawings would have been issued before RSAF closed at the end of 1988. AGW, Nigel

Thanks very much for the info Nigel. I would imagine that you had a very interesting time at building 10 while at Enfield ATB Kevin
