Hi Rod compare it to DD(E) 2247 the box for 10 Bren 100 rd Drum mags, it looks a awful lot like that to me although they no doubt tweaked it a bit for the Brens.

Hello to you regulars. I'm resurrecting this thread as my very limited contribution to the board as I have a similar box in my possession that I want to part with. I would sooner it went to someone really interested in it for what it specifically is, rather than just a keen (or otherwise) vehicle owner or reenactor who is just after a few boxes for a display. It is not as complete or as in as good nick as the one pictured above. It was used in a joiners shop for many years and has suffered a bit on the way. It has lost all the internal dividers and one of the latches plus a few of the hinge screws. The biggest downer, yes there is worse, is that the top and three of the sides have all acquired a thin layer of paint at some time(doubt it is of service origin but who knows?), plus a lot of small spots of varying colours. I had started to clean these off but decided a new owner might want to do this themselves. The remaining side has, now faded, lettering on that confirms it a being a container for Vickers GO Gun Magazines. Once I work out how to post some pics I will add them. I will also put an ad on the 'for sale' section, although if anyone wants to make an offer, on spec, then I will be happy to hear them. I am quite realistic about what it will fetch, so don't be shy in making an offer. Due to the weight, strictly collection from S Yorks area but I might be able to help with a meet up. Not doing any shows this year so that wont be an option.

If the person who ends up with this very interesting item wants I can send them the DD(E) of the Bren mag version of this chest which show the internal parts on the second sheet and can be used as a basis for restoring this, especially if some kind soul can compare the drawing to a extant complete GO chest.
I strongly suspect that the Bren chest was traced from the GO chest with slight ammendments for any differances in the mag, after all the Bren Mag was based mon the Vickers design!
