I was hoping that someone can help me identify who was the manufacturer of my Bren tripod. I'm pretty sure it is a MkI*. I have taken pictures of all of the markings that I can find. The T&E seems to be a mix with all the lower parts being CCM and then some J4 marked upper parts and what I think may be some BSA components as well. Also, is there a way I can set this up for AA use?? I can't figure out how to attach the Bren to it after it is standing up using a NoI MkIII Enfield for the third leg. THanks, Eric Attachments:

What I think you have is a mixture of parts, CCM is Canadian Cycle and Motor and other parts are marked BSA, Birmingham small arms. The serial number on the head is a bit odd, its quite a heavy stamp whereas all the examples I've seen are light marks probably done on a pantagraph.
If it was a CCM product, the serial wouldn't have a A serial prefix, a BSA or AGE product would. I doubt its a AGE item as they are marked all over.
I reckon its either had a new head fitted, in which case I think it was originally a BSA, or its been renumberd at some point. Is there a 1941 date near the serial?

Chris,
Thanks for your input... there is indeed a 1941 date stamped near the serial number.

Eric,as the tripod is a MKIm you are not going to be able to convert it very easily for AA use. Your front leg probably looks like this and is welded up without the AA bracket. It needs to be a MKI type that will extend upwards with the mounting bracket on it Your MKIm will probably not have the stowage location buttons to hold the legs inside the tripod frame either Even if you do find some legs the tripod bayonet lug will also probably not be fully machined to accept a rifle as sustitute. A few pics showing the leg extensions and rifle sustitute in use (on a ZGB) ATB Kevin

Looking at the photos, it looks like the front leg is adjustable. There is the ratchet lever thingy and a locking wing nut thingy. We will have to wait for a reply.

Thanks for all the great info. The front leg on my tripod is adjustable but it doesn't seem to have the mounting arm piece at then end of the extendable leg. Nor does my tripod have the spring loaded buttons on the rear leg adjusters. It does have a hole on the side of the spot where the Enfield bayonet lug would attach but no locking button there either.
I guess the piece that is the killer for me is essentially the mounting arm for the front leg. Is this something that can be found and added or an I S.O.L.??
Thanks, Eric

also, I forgot to mention that my bayonet lug mounting point is fully machined and I can get an Enfield lug to attach there.
