So, its a one off then, also means that Bren A1 may be out there somewhere!!! What would be the format of a pre production model? X1? perhaps?

Just a quick question for cmpman, does your DD Mk1 have a full stop in the name, i.e. 'BREN MkI.m' or is it 'BREN MkIm'? It is Bren mk1M; no "." in the name.

How strange, the one I have just bought has 'BREN Mk1.m', as does Kevs, yours is the same as the normal Bren Mk1m.
Now the strangest thing is, I've noticed Inglis made Mk1's (the original DD) say 'BREN Mk1' with no full stop, Enfield Mk1's say 'BREN Mk1.' with the full stop. So, it cant have been that the markings of mine and Kevs were from original part finished receivers, as the original mk1 didn't have a full stop. It appears that you may have a slight variation, and yours must be one of the very last intermediate Inglis guns.
What do you make of it Kev?

Well to be honest I have never noticed ...... but I have just succumbed to an irresistible urge to go and have a look for full stops (was hoping to find a rare one with a comma ;D) My Brens check out with what you have observed Brit As for the missing full stop on CMP's Bren perhaps Veronica was a bit lax on tracing the pantograph ;D

Appologies to Veronica it was probably Sophie who may have lifted off on the full stop OK I know its Chinese characters being copied but its the only pic I have of a pantograph

This may not be the case as the pantographing would have been done after all machining. As they are intermediates (with no dimples or pockets behind the barrel nut ) all machining as per a MKI gun (with dimples) would not be complete and therefore it would have not have been pantographed with model type on the body. Or if it had, the full stop might have been added when the M was applied ? ........I think this makes sense (I've had a hard day !)
