Kev,
I did a search on the works computer for that NSN shown on the wraper of the mag and it came back as NIV (Not in Vocabulary) so its no longer used (as I expected) but the next number was a 'HARNESS, MORTAR'!
Not that this is of much use to anyone!

I've also got one with what looks like HE stamped on it so it could be a HE Smith mag mentioned earlier.

I picked up a magazine at the weekend that has the Canadian broad arrow in C marking stamped in white (paint?) on the left side of the magazine, and '28 ROUNDS ONLY' stamped in red (paint?) in the front groove on the left side of the magazine.
How common was it to mark magazines in this way?

Anyone got any idea who H C M would be?
I have a Bren mag which I think is made by someone going by the name of H C M. Mag is marked (usual place on the side of it) as a II*, has a broad arrow, it also has an inspectors mark (I presume?) of a Crown over a sideways E (the 'prongs on the E are pointing downwards) which then has an =4 under that. There is also a H C stamp. The mag baseplate, which is really deeply blued - mirror finish virtually, is marked with H C M. I wondered if it was Hercules Cycles but wasn't sure where the 'M' came into it?
