Thanks Kev. That's what I suspected. Now I have to figure out if I still have the 'modified' ones stashed away somewhere or gave them away.

BTW, on another subject you talk about the 8mm magazine cases missing the handles. I had a number of them and they also were all missing the carrying handles and I thought I just had bad luck getting defective one.

I only have one left and it is now full of 8mm mags. I sold the others with magazines, not realizing they were that hard to find.

kgp,all the 7.92 magazine boxes that have come out of North America that look like the middle box in the pic don't seem to have had handles. (any one got one with a handle ?)



But the top one in the pic that has the writing in a more stylised font that came from Europe (though probably manufactured by JI ) has got a handle.Although it is in very poor condition it appears to be the same web handle as the John Inglis Chinese contract box that is below it



The rusty 7.92 box with a handle and the JI 7.92 Chinese boxes are identicle in manufacture , the ones without handles show a difference in the construction of the box.
