My 1943 MG42 was converted to 7.62 NATO by Rheinmetal in 1961. The 7.62 feed tray has 'horns' on the left side to attach a Gurt Trommel (belt drum) but these 'horns' are too close together to accept the standard WW2 Gurt Trommel. It would appear that a special belt drum was made for the 7.62 ammo, but Folke Myrvang's book makes no mention of such a thing. Can anyone tell me if such drums exist, and where to find one?
