Thanks guys! That puts us a little closer for our display project in a couple of upcoming gun shows.
So then my next question would be this - if each Enfield rifle has a B and a D on it, does that mean that parts were made at each factory but mainly assembled at Enfield? I have been reading up on the other rifles we own and have found that the M1 Carbine was manufactured in this manner with subcontracting, etc. It also looks as if parts were made in different years.

Can you post pics of the markings? Each component should have 1 marking only. BSA and Enfield made their own guns and didn't swop parts as BSA was a sub contractor, however I'm sure they would supply parts if there was a problem at one of the factories for a fee.
I have seen BSA lowers fitted to Enfield uppers and have the serial number of the upper remarked on the lower.

Here is one of the FN's in question. Had to use my cell phone as the camera is on the blink. The numbers are clear enough (I hope). If not, I can try to fix the silly camera and go from there. Again thank you for your help! Attachments:

Hello all,
I have a question about my L1A1 and I hope you guys can help me? I saw this is a pretty old topic, I hope that isnt a problem? I have a L1A1 with the serial number; UE57 A5072 I know the meaning of U(UK)E(Enfield small arms factory)57(made in 1957)
I would really like to know what the history of my weapon is. Was it in depot? or did they used it with the Falklands War? Or did it go somewere else? Is there any place I can check for this kind of questions?
I'm sorry if my spelling is not correct, I'm from the Netherlands and my English isnt what is was before hihi ;D

Unfortunately it's unlikely those records still exist - even if they were willing to release them into the public domain. (which I doubt) There's also a good chance your gun was made for export and isn't ex-British armed forces.

Hi guys woodsy has just helped me out ref my Lithgow deac L1A1 that will soon be up for sale. I am now trying to find out more info on my other British one. The serial number is UB 61 A140999 which I believe could be the final serial number to come from the BSA factory.
Any other info on this would be greatly appreciated.

I recently bought an L1A1 serial number: AD6118232 Any info much appreciated. Your rifle was in the third batch of rifles received from Lithgow by NZ in 1961. The first was 1,000 (AD6100001 - 6101000), second was 1,000 (6112261-6113260) and your batch was 2,000 (6117281 - 6119280). Your rifle was also one of the 1,000 rifles I purchased from the NZ Army in 1988 and sold to another dealer that same year.

Could you tell me more about the history of this weapon? What the condition was when you sold it, when you sold it and what approximately is the number of bullets fired with this weapon (if ithis is retrievable...) Please contact me!

Hi I have a NZ marked SLR # 631. Serial # AD 6003984 this has the wooden carry handle grips and the fore wood goes right to the end of the gas block.
The other one I have has a plastic carry handle grip and shorter fore wood serial # AD6100881. Any info would be great. Cheers
