Well its defiantly for a Fighting Vehicle (part No.) FV125962 and according to the seller it's for a ferret scout car. Now you need to track down an IPL (Illustrated Parts List) for the ferret. It would of been used for either the coax MG or the Commanders position, probably found the Bren sat too far forward in it's cradle so the Extension was made for it.
Anyone have a ferret manual handy? Come on Tom, haven't you got one of these hiding in the back shed :-D

This website lists some Bren items used with the Ferret and on this page lists some specific Bren items used on the Mk. 1 and Mk. 1/2 Ferrets www.ferret-fv701.co.uk/other%20variants.htmBren barrel mount Bren butt mount Bren magazine box that could be a Bren barrel mount on the floor in the centre of the pic? I've found a Ferret IPL reprint but they want USD$95 for a copy of it. www.military-vehicle.net/books.htmFERRET... ILLUSTRATED SPARE PARTS LIST. Clear illustrations and pictures! Unlike the poor mimeograph copy's you buy overseas with the photo's blackened in so your can't see what's in the picture. There's nothing worse than trying to work from a manual that you can't see the pictures to get help from! This illustrated parts manual has clear visible pictures in which to work from. Price: $95.00...Shipping/Handling...$5.00

My old Saracen had a ring mount on the back roof hatch for the Bren. It was designed for AA use and the butt sat in a spring clip which held the gun horizontal while travelling. I could never find a comfortable way to use it through the small hatch! Mind you at over 6 foot and about 110 kg I am probably a tad oversize for it! ;D If I can find a photo of the mount I will ask Kev to post it.

Can't find the picture of the grip mounted on a ferret but this is what it looks like just fitted to the butt probably the roughest bit of work ever to have come out of the doors of Daimler !

Kev, Have you seen this mounting for the L4 Brens? I've borrowed the pics from another website and thought you would like to see it. A very solid mounting.
