I have a question regards the Batch sizes of Inglis.
I have just aquired yet another Bren.
1940 Dated Inglis made M537 MKI
Now I follow reading down the thread that Inglis were onto Batch 'N' in 1941 and onto MKIm types, however as they didnt start making the Bren until 1938/39 and assuming that they would have started logically with a batch 'A' that is one hell of sprint down the Alphabet (though would explain some of the madder codes found in later production).
Can anyone enlighten me regards this?

Hi Lebel, well done on your latest Inglis MKI. Inglis started with M prefix serial numbers in 1940 not A prefix as per Enfield and Lithgow.(Monotype serial numbers started on R)
So your M537 Bren is quite early off the Inglis production line.

Thank you Kevin! Hope my info will be useful - this is a great site with a lot of information. I really like it. Just FYI - Zbrojovka Brno factory is over - now its abandoned brownfield waiting for complete rebuild, propably for flats...
