Thanks for that, does it have D profile gas ports? Your gun fits in with some other in the UK.

Chris, here is another live gun I saw today. It is an Inglis Mk I(M) 1941 but obviously fairly early as it has all the radius cuts and a first pattern barrel with the stepped cone, number N4933. It has the NZ^A stamp and a 4 digit Army number in the 2000 range which has been X'd out and restamped DP 599. It has since been put back to working order as our DP Brens merely had the firing pin shortened and the hole welded closed, consequently a good bolt and you are back in business! ;D

Thanks Rod, I had N4933 on the list but didnt know it was DP599. The NZA number I have for it is NZA1451, does that sound correct?
These are the NZ numbers I have NZA14 NZA16 NZA58 NZA73 NZA123 NZA468 NZA1018 NZA1369 NZA1451 NZ2664 NZ6080 NZ6241 NZ6774 NZ6811
and DP numbers
NZ DP35 NZ DP65 DP66 DP354 DP516 DP599 DP631 DP653 DP1080 DP1261
I've noticed (and have one example) that some of the NZ DP guns have no previous NZ number, do you know if the NZA bought some Brens to convert straight to DP. NZ DP35 is my own gun, no previous NZ number, original number H2005.
Cheers, Chris.

Hi Chris. The NZ number you have could well be correct as I only looked fairly quickly at the gun, and the number was fairly heavily x'd out. Not all of the NZ small arms were army numbered as the war progressed. It was a pointless exersize anyway as no records were kept as to their distribution, and probably some astute clerk figured out that they already posessed unique serial numbers. They resumed the numbering process with the L2 Sterlings, and also NZ numbered the first 1,000 L1A1 SLR's before flagging it again. The current Steyr AUG's have an NZ prefix on the serial numbers if they are of the original batch of 5,000 that came direct from Austria before the Lithgow production got underway. The whole NZ numbering system has been fairly haphazard to say the least, and I suspect it is only resurrected every now and then to ensure 'paper shufflers' do not become victims of Defence budget cuts! (or am I just being cynical? ;D)
