Hi, Any idea about this particular Russian style ammo box? It has the same size as the standard Maxim 7,62 x 54R ammo box, but was probably designed to be used inside AFV's. Is it Russian or from another former Warshaw Pact country? More information welcome.

Comparing it with the similar Vickers AFV Box your suggestion would seem sensible.
Having said this I believe Russian war-time AFV Machine Guns were drum fed so if this is a AFV Box it is probably for the post-war range of SG43 machine guns.
The lack of a star is also interesting.

Thanks for your reply. Here some other pictures of the inside. There is a kind of tube where eventually a beltstarter could take place or a thermometer? No star indeed on the box. Are there metallic toolboxes for Maxims or SG43?

If you look at the thread on Russian Maxim metal ammunition belts in this section you will see a picture of all the all the belts used. Quite if the belt tab would fit into that slot is questionable.
I have only ever seen the gunners tools bags which Ryton have on their list. These also appear on the Russian Maxim training posters which are now available.
I would assume it to be post-war and possibly one of the eastern block countries rather than Russia.
