This may have been covered in a past discussion so please forgive me for asking again if that's the case...
I'm wondering what the designation is for the box magazines which were produced from stamping and spot welded together. For reference in "Bren Gun Saga", see page 141 photo 161 which more or less states an alternate method of construction. They have fairly visible differences compared to regular magazines with the overlapping or raised lip running down the long length of the body.
All of the examples I have are marked M/78 which is Elkington & Co., Ltd. from Birmingham.

It would appear that the overlapped and spot-welded magazine bodies were still known as Mk II, and that this was just another method of manufacture. The Mk III bodies had the front follower guide spring welded in place, as opposed to the Mk II where it was crimped on. The full story of the magazine variations will be in Peter Laidlers book, currently in preparation.
