Evening fellas, I'm hopping that there might someone out there that can help with a night sight that I've got to identify and than locate! What I have is a Tikka M55 22-250 which was used by the 2nd Sqn S.A.S over here in Oz for counter terrorism duties during the Commonwealth Games in the early eighties, our S.A.S blokes obtained these rifles apparently from the British S.A.S. Now my problem is that in it's transit case is a hole for where the night sight went and i need to fill that gap but don't know what I'm trying to find, the length of the space is 189mm x about 54mm at is widest as it's molded to shape I'll post a pic as soon as I sort out how??? Thanks,Garth.

Thanks for the reply Kev, no I don't have the mounting bracket for it yet, all that I have is the hole in the transit case I,m getting 25th of April(May or when ever) to post the pics. I'm getting on to the A.W.M and hopefully they might have a bit more info than they posted on the link you provided(thanks). Garth

I had the chance to examine one of these rifles at an auction here in Sydney a few years back, I noted that it had a Birmingham Nitro Proof mark. In British service these may have received the designation L28A1, which is for a .22 rifle - not to be confused with the L29 Sportco rifle. A blank round was developed for training exercises, which had a geen colored wad at the top of the case, from memory.

Is that the same Alan D that I remember from Ch-Ch, Auckland and Hamilton, and enthusiastic collector of British military items? ;D If so, what are you doing Oz where you can't own the things you love!!

That's is correct Alan with the bases marked R-P 22-250 REM, the packets are plain brown with QED 82 stamped on the front which the transit case has the QED moulded in to it just in front of where the sight goes. I have been able to contact the A.W.M and they are looking into more details about the rifles and their service and hoping to be able to give an answer in the next week. Garth

Hi Rod
Yes its me, you have PM.
Tikkas
There is at least one pictorial book on the SAS - title escapes me- which shows half a dozen marksman prone, using exactly the same rifles, with Kahles scopes. The Pattern Room have a couple of M55's, one has a lighter barrel the other differnt woodwork , to the above photo. I understand some UK police Forces slso used the M55, a number were sold off about 10 years ago.
