I own a copy of the 1914 Handbook for the .303-in. Vickers Machine Gun, and am curious as to its' relative value and rarity. It is a small hard bound book as would be expected, with complete diagrams to assist the field stripping of the weapon.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Mr R Cornaby

Good Morning Mr Cornaby,
I would think that your handbook is one that is quite difficult to get hold of now. I have a copy of the 1918 Handbook issued by HMSO that I quite regularly see go for £50 (or above) and I would image that your item would be in the same region of value.
It would be interesting to know a bit more about it to be more certain though.
What is the full title? Who is the publisher? Is it an official military publication or commercial item? The number of pages?
If all this information were available then a better indication of price would be possible.
Regards
Richard Fisher

I presume this is the same manual as is being sold on eBay at item number 6586740103. I have just been outbid but I don't like these private auctions as you could well be bidding against a friend - not nice!
I will see what the price does and may have a dip in later on.
Cheers,
Rich

Many apologies for long absence - lost the link to forum and just re-discovered cleaning out my hotmail account! Thanks for your replies Richard - the full title of the manual is: Handbook for the .303in. Vickers Machine Gun (Magazine Rifle Chamber) Mounted on Tripod Mounting, Mark IV. 1914. Official Copy at Top - hard satchel brown cover, printed by Harrison and Sons, price Sixpence, 79 pages, then photos, then pull out diagrams, then listings of other Military Books, published by Authority. Title in gold print on spine. Hope this helps, Kind regards, Rod
