I collected a new toy on Saturday - a nice 1939 Enfield (obviously) with second dovetail etc. etc. ;D ;D ;D A really nice addition but, when stripping it, discovered a previously unseen mod/accessory. Around the rear of the Gas Cylinder (covering the rear set of Gas Exhaust Holes) is a steel collar, 5/8" (15mm) wide, with two V shaped slots filed into one edge. Obviously designed to reduce loss of pressure so as to give more reliable functioning. It is a loose fit so it could be rotated thereby adjusting gas escape. Anybody seen anything like this before? BTW - The Butt Strap has been removed so if any originals are out there I would be interested.
