Odd sling swivels

Popped into the Antiques mart in Ramsbottom yesterday and the small militaria stall there had a 1940 E series double dovetail for £395. Metals a bit worn and the woods nowt to write home about but there was one interesting thing about it.

Someone (looks like while in service rather than a collector add on) has fitted oblong sling swivels through the hollow centres of both mounting pins. the swivels looked solid so must have been welded closed.
