It hs been confirmed from examples currently on ebay still with thier stores labels on that the brown canvas 6 magazine bags are

A1/AA5294 Boxes, Magazine, Bren Gun, Carriers, Web

That incidentally is not your bog standard 12 mag box.

We hypothesise that the AA 5285 is something like the mag boxes found in Bren carriers and other AFVs which lacks divisions inside and so would require some sort of liner to prevent the mags bouncing around, especially when you were down to the last one! Anyone with pr!mary documented evidence Of AA 5285?

My minty bag arrived, the seller included a label from the stores pack

so there was a NSN for it anybody have access to 1970s stores codes? It may give us a clue as to the box it went into.

Mine is new and unissued. 1944 dated manufactured by P.I. (?)

The short carry handle and no snap on the lid leads me to believe that it is for static use or maybe on a vehicle....

I haven't found any info on it either
