The first photo:
SLAZ = Australian manufacturer (Slazengers Ltd. Sydney, NSW) 52 = year /|\ = military acceptance mark
The Second photo:
MA = Australian manufacturer (Lithgow SAF, NSW) 52 = year FTR = Factory thru repair /|\ = military acceptance mark
L /|\ = Lithgow SAF inspection mark 19

Many thanks for your quick reply, does this mean it was built in 1952? it say Bren mk1 1943 on the right hand side??

Nope, your bren was manufactured in 1943.... in 1952 it went back to Lithgow and was rebuilt/repaired to factory new before being put back into service. This is common for service weapons. Parts do wear out if they are in service for a long time....

Cheers for that, whats the best was to clean a deactivated Bren? Like you would any other firearm. I would spray (sparingly) stuff like WD-40 into places that you cant get to or take apart to prevent rust and wipe everything else down. just my 2 cents.....
