Found a Photo of a Vickers gun fitted to a BREN tripod. Any one know if this was common practice? Rich, you may have seen the photo, what do you think?

Well, I spent two weeks going the rough the 'machine gun' search on the AWM archive and never spotted that one!
I will now try and work out what and how!

Hi Rich Want me to see if I can wangle a copy of DD(E) 2530 June 1940 Adapter Vickers .303-in on Bren Tripod ?
Oh yeah, theres a adapter for the 0.5in Tank gun to fit onto a Mk IV .303 tripod listed here as well...

That would be great Tom (unless you have sent it to me already?) The .5" adaptor I am aware of but a drawing would be great.
So much for me considering selling the Bren tripod then!!

The War Diary for the 2/2 Inf Bn says
It seems that they were doing Jungle-related training at the time.

Anybody come across pics of the McFalane (SP? not at home at moment so can't look it up) butt monopod the Aussies trialled for the Bren? Yes I know this is the Vickers bit but it would probably be in the same sources as the pics put up recently.
I can put up the pics from the stuff I dug out of the P Room (unless Kev beats me to it) when I get home but I'd be interested in seeing any "in the field" shots.

Have just posted this on the Bren forum - fyi!
Have just found this so please pardon the necropost. The reason I googled the subject is that 5 Bren tripods have just recently come out of Zimbabwe - along with some other awesome stuff but that's a story for another day. We didn't immediately see anything odd about them as they were lumped together with other Mk1 and Mk2 units but on closer inspection realised that they must be these converted Vickers types which, according to some sources, were only used in Aussie training camps. Interesting to speculate how they arrived in Zim as the only time Rhodesian and Aussie troops were deployed in the same theatre was Malaya and Burma. These bipods must have been deployed with Aussie forces to one of those theatres and come home with the Rhodesian forces. Any additional info/speculation would be appreciated.
