Hi,
One I've been puzzling over for a while...
Is there an 'official' way of positioning the Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 Bren bipods when the gun is mounted on the tripod in either ground or AA fire configuration?
The Mk1 and Mk3 bipods can be folded down, forward or backwards, whereas the Mk2 can only be folded down or backwards.
So for example, when using a Bren with a Mk1 or Mk3 bipod, would you have it folded forward or backwards when it is mounted on a tripod in ground fire configuration? Ditto AA fire configuration. And with a Mk2 bipod? etc.
Thanks, Mark

Illustrations in the handbooks and training posters from 1939 onwards show the bipod in the normal down position. It is not mentioned in the text. Some action photos show it in the forward position. Either way has no effect on the use of the gun on the AA mount so I guess it is a matter of personal choice (I display my AA mounted Bren with the legs folded forward).

And for AFV's there was the bipod clip to hold the legs in the forward position.
