Arising out of a query on another board, does anyone have any observed contractors' [usually furniture makers] names on transit boxes for Bren, Vickers, Lewis, & T.S.M.G. ? This is in relation to the 1940s only, at this time. Nicholls & Janes and Harris Lebus have surfaced so far.

My 1944 Vickers/Lewis crate is by Slazengers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slazenger"The war years (1939–1945) The bombing of England during World War II was the catalyst that brought the four companies together: known after 1940 as the Slazengers Sykes Gradidge and Ayres Group of Companies. Probably a little known fact was the Slazengers Sykes Gradidge and Ayres contribution to the World War II effort. With government contracts in hand the company set about manufacturing a wide variety of items for use during the war. Mainly utilising their expertise in wood manufacturing the company produced many various items. "

Mine was made by mg34transitchest in the great State of Texas. Sorry, I apologize. I just had to say it. As an aside, I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge and experience this forum has and provides. Keep up the good work.

I was thinking of UK ones primarily, tho' Dominion ones might useful too. The above examples were Thompson ones but they might have made them for other weapons.

Slazengers were also operating in Australia and the rear-crosspiece woodwork on Vickers MGs is often made by them and marked as 'H.S.'

Would make sense in my case, as my 1918 gun was one of those that came out of Australia in the 90's, and appears to have been refurbished there 1942/43 (as many of the internals now have those dates and Aussie makers marks on).

Two I can't find a maker. One is an Australian SLAZ 42 dated and another undated SLAZ One below is UK made and 1940 dated but can't make out the name. There is nothing before the first letter 'B' but could have been a letter after the last visible letter 'L' BEAUTIL??YL or BEAUTIL??YL? Anyone know who this may be ? ATB Kevin

'Beautility' ? There are references to such a furniture company out there. Beautility Furniture Ltd of Angel Road, Edmonton were granted British Patent No.508156 in 1939, and a number of other patents relating to furniture. They now appear to be called Zone Furniture Ltd and are part of the Morris Furniture Group.
