I have recently, and locally, found a rod which, by a process of elimination (probably flawed) I imagine to be Besa. It is of all steel construction with a swivelling handle very similar to the Vickers but without the curved section (which was there for the strap of the leather barrel case).
OAL is 105cm/41.3" (thus too short for .50 BMG) and of 6mm/.25" diameter with slotted end. No markings that I can see.
Any ideas - Tom or others?
I don't 'do' Besa so it's available if needed.

Hi Peter as far as i know the 7.92 Besa used the standard Vickers/lewis/Bren lenght rod with a working lenght of about 31 inchs (+handle).
The 15mm had a special multi section rod with a big U shaped handle that points back down the rod.
Anychance of a pic as I still have my cleaning rod fetish.

Hi Peter it looks Comoonwealth. Any chance its just a armourers jute rod? mines buried so I can't measure them but they were longer than the Mk II and V rods?

Hi Peter I'm down at the inlaws so can't quote you the LoC but its the armourers rod thats at least a .303 cartridge cases lenght longer than the rod that is used with the copper wire for cleaning out .303 barrels. It was used with a certain number of jute threads to cleanbarrels and chambers (the copper wire ones were designed to be too short to reach the chamber). When i get home I will dig out the references.
I vaguely remember the Rods were numberred 1 to 5 but some where for cleaning carbine lenght weapons. Varriations on some of them are still on issue with NSN codes. I think I listed them once but I'm d**ned if i can remember where!
