I'm stuck on my couch, unable to move with a trapped nerve in my back....and bored.
So I thought I would throw some figures at you Bren fans.
We all know the figure thrown around of 30,000 DD brens made by the time of Dunkerque and 27,000 lost there. I've worked out there were no less than 64,725 DD Brens made and no more than 66,105 between all 3 Nations.
Total Bren Mk1 .303 (all types) production is approx. 344,478
Total Bren Mk2 .303 production is approx. 166789 (Inglis 89675 Monotype 77114)
That would mean there were roughly twice as many Mk1s made.
Total Inglis Bren .303 Mk1 & 2 approx 177,593 units Total British Bren .303 Mk1 & 2 approx 327,114 units
Anyone have any comments?

I think the source for this figure originated from 'International Armament' - Johnson & Lockhoven, 1965 which gave the figure of about 2,300 Brens left in England.I would very much like to know how this figure was worked out as it seems incredably low. I would have thought greater numbers than 2.300 Brens would have been in England with regiments and units that never went to France as part of the BEF even if none came back ? Hope your back is feeling better brit ? ATB Kevin
