Hi,
Just in case I bump into a bargain at Stoneleigh; other than the markings how do you tell apart a MkI and MkII transit chest? I've read elsewhere that the MkII chest is modified slightly to fit the 'hump' on the top of the MkII butt plate, but I've no idea what this looks like.
Thanks,
Mark
PS. If anyone could advise what to look for when seeking 'factory spec' transit chests for a 1940 Enfield MkI, a 1943 Inglis MkII and a 1943 Lithgow MkI(m), I'd be very grateful.

I think the chest for the mk2 with the protruding butt plate just had a little chunk chisseld out of the wood (I'm not to knowlegable on chests).
I think most of the chests around now are of recent Aussie Origin, but many of these could be Brit or Canadian, refurbed by Lithgow. I've seen sites selling them for £75 recently, I was selling them for £20 a few years back, when you could buy a complete Lithgow refurb in chest, with spare mag and cover for £190 from Witham's (and you could haggle a bit with them). My last Bren from them cost £170 if I remember correctly (only after giving them a sob story of only having £170 left, and really wanting a Bren, and No, I was lieing, I'd spent the rest on a SKN Bren!).
