Cat No. C2/BG 4058, List of Changes B 4878, CANS, GREASE, M.G., MK. I
Are they really difficult to come by?
There's an eBay seller saying they are. Now, I don't have one but only because it's something I've never bothered to look for, rather than can't find.
I'd appreciate opinion.

I have seen grease cans such as these on English web sites for about 5 pounds each in new condition:
These are original British Army issue containers for grease. Issued as part of the Complete Equipment Schedule (CES) for a wide variety of small arms and ordnance including the BESA tank machine gun and the 25 Pounder Gun Howitzer, and also as part of the Armourers supplementary tool kit. Made from thin tin plated steel with a lift off lid, these tins are in unissued condition and are mostly still in their original brown paper wrapping. The ones that we have opened are mostly stamped on the base 'CWS B' (Co-operative Wholesale Society?). Inside the packaging most appear to be coated in preservative grease. British Army part number 'C2/BG 4058'. Stock No 17/38.
Do not know if these are the same ones you are talking about.

Yes, they are exactly like the ones Kev posted a picture of. Five pounds plus One pound, forty shipping on some English websites. They are new old stock in original cartons. Not what I would call rare.
