Very nice job i must say Michielvr ! A good tip for cleaning the brass work, take it off and get some brick cleaner from a DIY shop (is is basicaly hydrochloric acid), put 1/3 water to acid in a pot and let is soke for 15mins or so then give it a good wire wooling, re soke in the acid another wire wooling then rinse with plenty of fresh water, dry and oil as required it will look like new!!!

its been a while since i posted something on the progres of my box well i finaly finishd the interior. i picked up some last bits and pieces at beltring that i needed to testfit my fittings. the leather work should also be finishd by the end of the week. some pics and since i am in a living history group , i hate to use original vickers ammo boxes for doing drill. i have however found a good alternative i just buy post war H51 boxes and adjust the text and numbers here i changed the 300 to 250 , and the BDR(bandolier) to BLT (belt). requires a lot of paitence and a steady hand before: and after :

Nice work! It is a fairly hard job to find all the contents but you seem to be well on the way. My box has a larger tin mounted under the lid but the photos don't show enough to see if yours has it. I you need it, I can send you photos and measurements.

there are nog holes in the lid
however :
the setup as i have builded it was never fitted to this box it was a ww1 box that had different fittings (no feed blocks , more booster cones etc)
i would like to know on what date the extra box under the lid was added, then i can decide if i will fit it to my box or not.

Nice job michiekvr - not a serious crit, but could you not replace the Star/Phillips screws with slotted screws - if available of course. I find they jar a bit.
Cheers

Hi Michiel,
The waterjacket repair kit was included within the parts lists from the late '30s so it would have been carried. However, the only boxes I have seem with the fittings in the lid are Australian ones. British ones probably just had them loose.

Hi there; I have one of these boxes I picked up at an estate sale that I was going to turn into a tool box for something or another. After poking around on the net for quite a while once I found what it was , I suspect it would do better on ebay than chopped into bits in my workshop. Here are a few pictures. I believe it to be a 1943 model in excellent condition, and it is located in Canada. Any thoughts beyond that welcomed. Regards, Zigbee

Really nice condition box Zigbee.
Mine also has the SlA7 mark but 1942 dated. Any ideas on who/what/where SlA7 is - Brit or Aus made?

Thanks Andrew.
"SLAZ" - of course! That didn't occure to me but remarkable that both my '42 and Zigbee's '43 dates are identically (badly) stamped leading to the lower portions of all letters being unclear. Probably the same worker.
Mine came from Beltring around 5/6 years ago - 20 quid at the time, empty. I took me some 18 months to get all the contents. Very chuffed when it was completed.

Thanks for all your info on these boxes.
I looked at building some replicas but had some issues with identiying originals or replicas of the latch.
It is now for sale in the for sale board.
Thanks, ZigbeeTheGreat
