I need someone that has these to take a few measurements and/or photos of the following items:
Pegs, Night Line, M.G., Mk. I
- I need length, width and how many were in the kit.
Box dial sight
- I need what was painted on the front for markings, size of lettering, and what was in the box besides the sight and 2 emergency levels. Looks like there was some kind of tool that clipped inside.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Craig

Sorry Craig, totally forgot about this post.
I will be able to help with the dimensions etc for the night line pegs but the current dial sight I have does not have a marked-up box so unless the one I will be getting in a day-ot-two is marked up, that one will have to be for someone else.
Give me until the weekend to get the measurements for you but if you have heards nothing, give me a shout to remind me.
Thanks,
Richard

Thanks Richard. I appreciate it. I am going to make myself some Repro Pegs. I also have a dial sight box that needs attention because of the surface rust. I am having it sandblasted and redo it. The lettering on it was in such bad shape I couldn't read it.....

Afternoon Craig,
Just had a quick measure and they are very simple measurements so won't bother with a photo if that's okay.
The long peg is an 18-inch long piece of quarter-inch square bar. It tapers for 1-inch at one end to form a point to put into the ground. The original one I have is painted white. Also, a 9-inch peg was also used.
I believe, but can't find a reference at the moment, that one short peg and one long peg were carried per gun by the platoon headquarters. The short peg was placed where the tripod goes and the long peg was for direction of fire and how the tripod should be 'pointed'. The zero post was also used for this latter duty.
I have the case that the pegs go in and one 18-inch peg but I do not have any others so if you do make some up (and postage wouldn't be too much), I would be interested in three long and three short pegs.
I hope this helps,
Richard

Richard, according to the 1949 IPL for the vickers is looks like there are 2 - 18" and 1 - 9" along with some kind of collar in the set. PM me with your addy and as soon as I have them made I will send you a couple of sets. Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig,
I knew the figures would be somewhere but couldn't remember where! I think Rex Fendick gives a good account of their use in his memoirs (A CANLOAN Officer). What the IPL doesn't say is whether that is per platoon, section or gun - well I don;t think it does.
I will send you my address shortly.
Richard

Ok.. anyone know what the collar (#24 in the picture) is and what it was used for? Anyone have it and can tell me the size (measurements). This is from the 1945 Equipment Identification List for the Vickers.

As a guess, it looks like it's to take the line at a right angle of the peg. Square peg, but I assume not a round hole?
If Tom or someone has the drawing, it will confirm if the hole is round or square.
The drawing looks like DD(E)1402 from Richards online manual.

Thanks Rich, if you could send me a photo that would be great. Is your sight complete? What is the 2 clips on the inside hold?
Cheers, Craig

What is the 2 clips on the inside hold? Cheers, Craig Hello Craig,
These clips hold item number 5 in the above drawing. It is a spirit level that can be inserted in the muzzle to set the gun level.
Regards, Mac
