Here we go, daft question time.
What was the actual purpose of the Butt Strap on top of the butt on early MKI Brens? It's one of them things that I've never figured out?
When were these declared obselete, I'm guessing somewhere late 1939/early 1940 'ish? Were the butt straps and the handle under the butt scrapped at the same time?

When the guns first came into service, the method of holding was right hand on pistol grip, butt strap on top of shoulder, and left hand on the butt grip. The method changed early in the war to dispense with the butt strap and butt grip and place the left hand around the small of the stock.

Thanks Rod, that's cleared a mystery up for me.
I was gonna Google Butt Strap...then thought better of it! Decided to ask on here instead would be a better idea!!
