Loader accepts 7.92 and shorter rounds, continuous metal belts, pitched for MG34/42 style and is in a metal box with closing hasps much like madsen LMG metal boxes for mags. Cam action presses the rounds into the links as the drum is rotated, very, very smooth and well made machine. No markings except for the number '5' stamped on the side of the hopper. That is an intruiging one! I have been through my fairly extensive library and found nothing. There is a specialist belt and loader collector who lives in France, Dr Jean-Francois Legendre, who probaly knows the answer but I have no contact details for him (although I would like them). Perhaps one of our Europe based members knows how to get hold of him?

JFL is a friend of mine with whom I communicate often about such stuff. Had the pleasure of meeting him at the Knob Creek MG shoot this spring, a twice yearly event for me, and spending lots of time talking belts, loaders and other stuff.
He has seen the pictures and cannot identify the loader either. So, back to square one!

Looks like a modern commercially made item, rather than military item.

Having seen quite a variety of new made commercial loaders, at least those made and offered in the US, none are remotely like this one. If there are any commercial belt loaders being made overseas, I am sure I would have seen the advertised somewhere. The construction of the loader, and the box are vintage, with such features as hardwood interior fittings to hold th eloader and the stools, screws holding the wooend pieces inside, and pre-war style lastches, etc. Box is lght sheet steel painted s generic military green/olive drab. There is series of black and white photos assembled into the topcover showing the manner of using the loader and one pic has rounds filling the hopper which look like 6.5 rounds. I am tending to think that it is a loader for the Madsen aircraft LMGs in a 6.5 caliber. Although 7.92 rounds perfectly, it would also feed and load a variety of other rounds similar in shape and length. The box has closure hasps very similar to the Madsen steel LMG magazine boxes. Thanks for the observation.

After quite a bit of asking around, it was suggested that the loader might be in 30-06, which does fit thrugh the system. So, I have decided, given the resemblance of the loader carry box to other types of Danish mililtaria, that the loader is for the Danish Madsen-Saetter LMG in that caliber, which uses 50 round continuous metal belts exactly like the MG42 belts.
