I recently aquired a sealed 24 magazine tropic pack. The end of the box reads - IN AID OF MA214 Anyone any idea what MA214 is ? Or any other of the wording apart from the obvious Bren parts reference and manufacturer ? ATB Kevin

A nice box Kevin! This is just speculation but perhaps MA214 was a Lithgow order number (for X amount of Brens and magazines) and Electrolux were filling the magazine part of that order? If that was the case then there may be some records in the Lithgow archives. This could be a wee job for Tony Smith!

Thanks Rod,the only trouble is I want to look inside but don't want to unseal the box ! I suppose you should always buy things like this by the brace :-) Any info you can glean would be of interest. Any idea if these have the 2 cardboard boxes inside ? I'm sure you posted a pic but can't find it ?

Kevin, I did post some pictures a long time ago. I have had a look at my 12 mag Tropical Pack and I think two of them would fit nicely into your case. My mags are only marked TMS Mk.I* on the cover plate and no body markings at all. The followers are investment cast. The waxed card box holds 12 mags individually wrapped in grease paper, and the small white paper label on one end of the box reads:
C-1 BE8809 Guns M C Bren .303 In. Mk.2 MAGAZINE BREN .303 In. MG. No.1 Mk.II* QTY.12
TMS does not correspond to any of the known WW2 makers and could well be a post-WW2 contract. Your box could well be a later contract perhaps? Electrolux (in Melbourne) were WW2 makers but I am not sure if they carried on after the war for a while.

Rod,I have been digging through my stuff and have found a partial tropical waxed cardboard box with Electrolux mags (not dated) in it.I pressume the mags have been unwrapped allready. Is this box similar to the one you have that may be inside the wooden box ? ATB Kevin

Kevin, the carton is the same but mine does not have the cardboard dividers, just individually wrapped mags. Now you don't have to open the case!

Thanks for the confirmation woodsy, many thanks.
If you ever happen to find out what 'IN AID OF MA214' means I would be pleased to hear.
