Picked this one up earlier in the year with the 40 magazines still nicely greased inside.Any ideas what the box was originaly used for ? The magazines were various countries/makers and were originaly DP mags with a 1 inch yellow band around the centre. At some point the mags were painted green (inc over the DP band) and had new Australian internals fitted. Kevin, I have a similar looking box (I use it for a tool box in my Scout Car) in its original finish which is marked 'PE2 4oz blocks'. I have also seen other similar boxes for other military stores. I suspect that these are generic military boxes in different sizes for general use, and appropriately maked when filled.

Thanks Chris. I did some playing around with PE2 in the '60's but we were handed the blocks individually and never really looked at the packaging. At that age I was far more interested in the bang!
