Hi Guys this is my first posting. I am very interested in learning as much as possible about the various different versions of the 7.92 Besa. I have just added a MK2 to my collection to go with my MG 37t and my MK3*. My question is, there seems to be 2 versions of the MK2. One has a ventilated body either side of the barrel like the MK1 and MG 37 and the other has a solid body without slots cut into it more like the MK3. When did this change occur and also i have seen both versions with and without the pistol grip safety lever and was wondering if this was correct or should the grip safety only belong to one of the two versions? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Rob The Mk II is the one with the vents like the MK I and grip safety and the Mk II* was a transitional version with the solid sides of the Mk 3s. Both have the non fixed accelerator so could fire at two rates (the Mk 3 had a fixed accelerator so fired only at the highter rate while the Mk 3* had no accelerator at all and fired at just the lower rate.)
You can get Mk 2*s with both types of hand grips, Mk 2s should just have the versions with the safety. My Mk II* has the earlier grip but has and some work on it to make it fit. Units with spares would fit what they have until stocks of that type were used up.
If you want a DVD with all the files I've scanned in on the Besa drop us a line at
tombear01@google___mail.com remove under bars, I prefer it if I get the cost of postage and blank disc back but no fuss.
Lucky man if you have aquired a staright Mk II, its about the only de-ac I'll get now, if I can find one!

Hi Tom Thanks for the in depth reply, you certainly know your stuff! The gun i purchased is a Mk2 with ventilated sides but you have confirmed what i feared because the grip is the new style without the safety. Its in nice condition with all matching numbers including the barrel shroud which to my surprise was removable as it is a 1988 deac. I would love to purchase a MK2* with the grip safety so i could swap the grips with my MK2 and end up with two correct guns so if anyone has one please get in touch.. Thanks again for all your help and i will email you tonight with regard to the DVD. Cheers Rob
