Hi Guys I have just started to repaint a Bren Chest, its marked up as a MK1 but looking at pictures of early Bren Chests they dont have the wooden runners down the outside, mine has, does anyone know when they came into service? I am wanting to restore the box to house my 1940 DD Bren so aiming for a 1940 looking Chest,
Regards Gary

I think your talking about the bumpers on the outside of the box, if you are, theyre a Aussie addition I believe, does it have the later clasps too?

Hi, Thanks for the info, No it has the early type clasps, as found on the Vickers/Lewis chest and 100rd Drum Chest, I am unsure if to remove them now or just leave it be, its history afterall,

Just for interest,
Could you take a picture?
I can take a picture off my Canadian MkI and MkI* in comparison with yours?
