Gents, I'm looking at buying an L1A1 SLR as part of a National Service display for use with the Vickers. I've seen some on D&B militaria with woodwork and they seem the kind of things I am after; however, I know bugger all about them. Are these any good? www.dandbmilitaria.com/post-ww2-58-c.aspThanks, Rich

SN 024 Indian SN 048 Indian SN 149 Aussie SN 226 Indian SN 350 Indian (Wrong hand guards, they look FN FAL or STG) SN B62, true Brit L1A1 UB62 indicates its a United Kingdom BSA made 1962.
So it looks like if you want a true Brit L1A1 you need to fork out a fair bit, next best is the Lithgow Aussie gun and then lastly the Indian versions.

In terms of appearance and manufacturing differences, are there many between the different countries.
I'm looking at an early wooden stock version so the Indian ones are attractive at the moment.
Thanks,
Rich

Hi, Still looking for a L1A1 lower receiver complete without grip and stock. Preference for providers from United Kingdom and continental Europe. Thanks, Luc

Thanks, Rich Visually, not a lot in it, however spare parts would be a problem, the Indian SLRs are a combination of Imperial and metric but the machineing style is almost the same as the UK type. The Lithgows are imperial but the machining is more akin to the FN Fal. Peter L said that some Lithgow L1A1s ended up in UK ordnance stock after various conflicts etc. so maybe one of these would be more appropriate than a Indian.

Uw! I'm glad to hear that, my old spec L1A1 is a Lithgow and I realy wanted a UK to go with the majority of the uniforms I have. It may explain why a lot of the internals are Enfield marked. Perhaps more likely its been in private hands before it got chopped and they used UK parts to repair it.

Thanks for the information. I might see what I can pick up at Beltring (as long as I get there!).
Thanks,
Richard

Guys try the 'US' like 'Enterprise Arms" and build to suit your needs say Metric receiver as more items available across the world, inch items becoming scarce..
