No 3 wooden ammo box

According to LoC 10644 (page 473 GOL) the No 3 box was introduced on Feb 22, 1897. My example is clearly marked 1896 and has the horizontal circumferential leather strap as shown in many early .303 Maxim photos.

I also have a No 3 Mk II* with original paint and markings which has been converted from a Mk II by the addition of internal tinplate liners. It is dated 1908 although the conversion would have been done after 1912.

I will post some photos at the weekend. I would be interested in seeing examples of other No 3 boxes that are out there.

As promised, some photos. The No 3 mk II* box has one end painted black and has the N^Z issue stamp. There are several photos showing these boxes in use at Gallipoli with the NZ Maxims.
