Here are some photos of the group I belong to displaying as the MMG Group, 7th (Galloway) Bn, King's Own Scottish Borderers at the Victory Show, Cosby, UK on the first weekend of September. The display is of the dug in troops of the 1st Airborne Division in the perimeter around the Hartenstein Hotel, Oosterbeek around 21-22 September, 1944, as part of Operation MARKET GARDEN. The Vickers is my Second World War British 'V' range gun, that happens to have had use by Airborne Forces at some point and has signs of use by them and is also within 10 numbers of the gun in the Hartenstein Museum, Oosterbeek (which was dug up in the area). None of the photos are my own but those I have sourced off of the likes of Flickr. Click on the links under the photo for the original source and more of the show. Only photos I'm putting on here are the Vickers MG related ones. Comments and constructive criticism welcomed. www.vickersmachinegun.org.uk/livinghistory.htmRegards Richard

Funny that, it was what a lot of people walking round said. Surprisingly the lad sat at the back normally smokes like a chimney (roll-ups as well!) but these photos didn't catch it.

Tom, your opening a whole can of worms there, if it was a pre 95 deac cigarette, you may be able to dry light it and get a small smoke cloud, but a post 95 would have no functioning parts and there for only suitable for staying in the packet. The only option would be to have 1 pre 95 smoke, and about 5 post 95 smokes in the packet leaving space for the ones that have already been smoked. This could be expensive!

Well theres a market opening for someone, nicotine/tar free herbal fake Woodbines... I'm pretty certain they already exist Tom - when I was doing the filming for "The Somme - from Defeat to Victory" back in 2005 the film crew were liberally dolling such things in between takes even to non-smokers such as myself to try and get everyone they could smoking where possible. No filters either, so appropriate for the period.

Yup, as well as the Mallatts plastic jobs which puff out clouds of smoke like powder in the link at the bottom of my last post they do herbal ones www.clovesmokes.com/PropMasters.htmand packets are available www.tommyspackfillers.com/showitem.asp?itemRef=VS008As pocket fillers I have picked up the odd empty packet, usually from stalls selling the cards that came in them. I once bought a book that had a empty "V" packet inide it as a book mark, wish I knew what I had done with it... I'm knee deep in clay pipes but need to get some 18th C sort ATB Tom
