Photoproject: The pepperpot attack

A Vickers machinegun section in depth.

In this project we take a look at how the Vickers machinegun was used during the latter part of the second world war. By this stage the Vickers had evolved into a very specialised piece of kit. Take a look at how the Vickers was used in something called a “pepperpot”. This was a supporting fire blanket that softened up enemy strongpoint before a divisional attack.

As I've said on the other forum: Absolutely excellent photos and it has inspired me and others to do something ourselves later this year.

These are an excellent commemoration of the gun in it's 100th year!
