Anybody know about these guns - modified NK version of PKM?
I can get one that needs some tidying up and spares which I expect to be a dog to find.
Can post some pics if there is any interest

Here we go Luc. As you say, most PKMs are very alike - the North Korea M73 differs in a number of respects - butt (missing on this one), trigger group, sights etc. Some cosmetic, others not. I'm not 100% convinced it is an M73 as it differs from the images at World Guns. This one has no method of using a box magazine as mentioned. Hoping somebody out there can help

Hi Peter, You are right about North Korea. your PKM is using a RPD buttstock like the SGM 43 in the pics in appendix. I think the barrel, and the bipod, should be the same as for the usual PKM. Using RPD buttstocks (in great number) was probably done to simplify the logistic supply chain: same buttstocks for all guns. Cheers, Luc

Hi Peter, I found this too. It is North Korean. I don't know if it will help you. It looks like a mix of RPD, PK, CZ43, SG43, Bren ... Cheers, Luc

Thanks for the pics Luc
The guns shown differ considerably from each other but I am inclined towards the first pair you have posted. The butt socket on my one is definitely angled downwards as in those pics and also located at the bottom of the receiver. The butt socket on the guns in the hands of the NK soldier and on World Guns appear to be horizontal.
Having said that, there are also a number other differences.

Hi Peter, Some more info on the M73. Your gun does not look like a M73 and should be related to PK-PKM's. The partially fluted barrel on your pic looks like those used on the first Soviet PK's. world.guns.ru/machine/nkor/type-73-machine-gun-e.htmlThe Chinese PK was the M67: the North Korean one could be the M68. That could explain the 68 on the top cover. Never saw one like this before. Hope it will help. I 'm learning a lot myself as I'm a freak of Soviet/Chinese/... armament. Cheers, Luc

Not made any further progress on positively IDing this gun.
You may just be interested to know that I have two other Chinese guns in my collection:
1) Standard M56 (ex Angola)
2) M63 with 20rd mag (ex Zambia)
Both in well used condition but still good shooters.
Cheers
