There was a question posted in the Maxim MG forum and I thought I would post the answers here as well for all the inquiring minds ;D The question is: "What are you guys using in your MG08's for barrel packing material? Where do you get it?" Well...... "I use graphite impregnated stem packing for faucets. Works OK for me and it's easy to find at most any hardware store." "Valve packing cord, the three strand graphite cotton string variety is excellent, packs to a uniform surface, is cheap and not a contaminant. Each strand is correct in OD to wind into the groove and can be cut to length. There are any number of string materials that can be used, but the valve packing for industrial use is really good." Here is an article that was in Small Arms Review Vol. 3 No. 7 (April 2000) that I found helpful... I hope this is useful for the enquiring minds More info: ;D "The specific valve packing that I have is:
V.S Packing Cat. # 930 1/8" 1 lb roll.
Made by: Lavelle Ind. Inc, 424 N. Wood ST, chicago, IL 60622
It is three strand graphited cotton, and each strand is perfect to pack any WC barrel groove. Cut to length and use in rear and front. Waterproof grease can be used along with it, or other lubes."

When you talk about the Maxim MG Forum are you talking about the Maxim Section on this site, or a different Forum?
For anyone interested there is a Yahoo site devoted to the Russian 1910 Maxim, but it only seems to be me an Bob Naess who do the talking.
