Hello everyone I am looking for your advice on my latest find, a Besa ammo box. When I got it, it was covered in black paint and had the two smaller flaps soldered shut. When removing the black paint i have damaged some of the original white paint. The box is in good condition with no major dents, it is missing the leather tabs but i plan to make new ones for it. Should I fully restore the box or leave as it is? I am really unsure what to do with this rare box, so any thoughts will help in my decision. Thanks in advance Bryan.

Wow thats the first Mk I box i've seen so rare is right! Congratulations! Because of its very rarity id be loathe to paint it myself unless its in worse condition than it looks in the pics and you are going to have to treat rust or whatever anyway.
Do you have the factory drawings? If not PM us and i will send them down the wire. Theres full sized drawings of the leather parts etc.
I must admit I'd give my back teeth for one of thoise babies!
Thanks for putting up the pics.

Very nice. Do tell how you came to acquire it, where did you find it? It would be nice restored, or at least made functional again. CaptMax

It's a hard call deciding whether to restore or not , Ive been sitting on the fence with some items for years and still not sure what to do. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I take it the MKI box had a very short service use ?

Yeah, it was a elaborate and expensive bit of kit. I wish I had time to liquidate some assets to get one but there's only 17 hours left.

Well, I was the underbidder (I thought I would take a punt and see if I could get it for no more than £50 or so with P+P), so was anyone else here the successful bidder?

Well I'm glad I didn't start bidding, I would be living in the coal house hugging it by now...
