I recently purchased a Vickers tripod and could use a little help in better identifying its vintage as it is fairly different from the later WWII vintage Australian tripod I have.
The tripod is marked as follows:
Cross head - L80 M.T. 303 MG MK IV J29
Brass Body - R.P.A. No. 1. Mounting. Tripod. 303. MK IV (note: no casting lettering as typical on later tripods) also has L80 on the other side
Dial - J30 J.8.33 (square with number 24 in it) M.T. 303 Mk-IV Dial DirN MKII
There are other assorted markings but hard to read when painted.
It is a D.P. marked tripod but very solid and usable for display or non-military use. Any help identifying year of build, manufacturer, or what these markings mean would be appreciated as you guys see a lot more tripods then we do.
