Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could tell me when butt disks were used on a mk1 butt. I have what I believe is an early butt on an early mk1 lower reciever(butt slide), all the metal work has BSA piled arms markings and there are no butt slices added, however there are is also no provision for a butt disk. I thought butt disks were an early feature? At the time of the phoney war/dunkirk should it have a butt disk? Many thanks!

The drawing (DDE 2234) showing where the recess for the butt disc should be positioned is dated 15/5/39.
List of Changes (LoC's) 28/2/39 Introduces the sandblasted pattern for use on rifles and the Lewis gun 30/6/39 Extends the use to the Bren gun.
Marking disc to be demanded as - BB0731
7/12/40 LoC's state no more manufacture of butt discs for use on any weapon.
So although they could be retrospectively fitted to earlier Brens period photos pre 1st half of 39 won't show them.
The butt wrist splices were first shown on a Drawing sketch (DDE SK 106) 30/9/40 as a proposed modification to the butt which was subsequently carried out.
Hope this helps date things for you ?
