Can somebody explain the differences between the several Vickers tripod variants (Mk I to Mk V)? On pictures they look all about the same with the possible exception of the dial direction wheel. TIA

There were only two types of the Vickers tripod (other than the emergency mountings) and they were the Mk. IV and the Mk. V - the others being Maxim tripods before the Vickers was introduced.
The V differed from the IV by using a different metal for construction (it was lighter) and by having spikes on the feet.
