I just acquired a WWI MKIV tripod, dated 1916 (RH&S dataplate 1916), 1915 date on cross head. Tripod was stripped of paint, exposing 90% machine blueing on the 3 legs, the leg clamps and nuts. Looks like gun blueing. The socket shows traces of green paint but no traces of paint on legs, may have never been painted? I am told the water jackets left the factory blued, but what was the finish for the tripods when completed?
Also I see some inspector stamps of a capital "C" with an arrow pointing north thru it. Is this a Canadian inspection mark?
Thank you for any insights provided.
