Ah! See what I mean about state the obvious, I thought the little press stud had to be buttoned up, but of course! Just un popped it and yes, I can see now that the gun can be mounted and the cover slips over the gun and - important point - you don't do up the little flap, you have to leave it open! Thanks Kev - you win a cookie, or some other suitable inexpensive sustanance when I am at Beltring. TTFN Matt

Matt you realy need a Motley mounting rather than a nasty old tripod ;-{D). Note how you can fit a brass catcher to the Bren and if you leave the 3 quick releases and big flap open it you can still get the cover on.
I've been sent (thanks V!) a wad of Mr Motleys patents and theres one for a six Bren mounting. You'll be relieved to know a mere two was standard...

Tom; Thanks for the advice on more stuff to collect. A Motley mounting might be a nice thought, but where the heck would I find one of those for sale.. ?? 6 Brens hmmmmmmmmm maybe not. More to the point where would I find 6 Drum mags.? Regards Matt

Wwwwwwwell, any good at Meccano? its hoped that amongst a lot of scanned stuff I still have to process (it's awful job, I can tell you) there a full set of engineers drawings for a Motley here, certainly theres a awful lot of them! And Straddle Mounting ones for that matter if you don't like springs.
There's a rather nice Straddle at Duxford, next to the Swordfish if any ones going.
6 drums? theres probably that meny down the back of Kev's sofa along with the loose change and combs....

Tom, Not having met Kev and with a joke about combs I thought perhaps next the phrase "bald as a coot" was going to occur, but I see not. Perhaps then you hint that he could do to find a comb once in a while? On the subject of covers though, had the bren mounted up AA style on the tripod today at work [don't ask!] and the cover fits fine and it looks good - d**n, no camera though! Matt

Indeed, I didn't think anything else matey. Was there a Bren cover like the Aussie one but a Brit issue during the war or was it never available? [keeping the thread vaguely on topic!] Regards Matt Gibbs

Am I really so out of touch with prices, or has the (eBay) world gone mad I've been after a small quantity of Aussie covers for the Bren. My existing two cost a fiver each in recent years , but not finding any near this price, I bid on this one on eBay, cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6612365520I upped my bid a couple of times, going over what I wanted to pay, but my bids haven't even left the starting post compared to the final price THE LISTING STATES POSTWAR. And it wasn't even the the winning bidders limit, as the bidding list shows the top two bids are both from the winning bidder. What would a wartime dated one have fetched with these bidders??? If anyone knows where I can purchase some at a reasonable (no, I mean sensible) price, please pm me.
