Hi jumpinghat, The tripod has rings on the tubes and a couple of rifle straps are fitted thro to form a pair of pack style straps.
You are quite correct on the PBI as no matter what you do with the d**n things they are not comfortable to lug around. Having said that i have only ever seen one pic of a squady carrying it and that was in the hills of italy.
They were probably " lost " fairly quickly or left in the MT wagons The four legged web strap affiar is not for the bren tripod but was made for lugging boxes of ammo etc around, simmilar to the german neck loops you see in pics. And i have no doubt that folks will chip in with thier own opinions on this one ;D regards Tim

You are quite right Tim, the harness was for 3" mortar tubes i believe.

yup, 2 bog standard rifle slings, and for a early Bren another with a couple of Bren clips added.
Early rifle slings still turn up minty, I got a 1939 dated one or a 5er, brand new.
Most hooks I've come across are undated, and I've seen no evidence that the differances in thickness of the sprung arm are anything more than varriations between manufacturers although some claim it signifies early or late production.

So generally the Bren Tripod used rifle slings... but early ones used Bren slings? with clips?? can someone clarify this ? Cheers

Just two regular Service Rifle web slings for the tripod. Think the extra that was mentioned was for your Bren.

Yup, the hooks are just for the Bren, As a general rule, Two hooks for a Mk I bipod and butt as on early Mk Is No hooks needed on a Mk II Bren or a early MK 3 with the Mk II Bipod. One hook for later Mk 3s and Mk 2/1 guns that had a Mk I bipod fitted in FTR. One hook for all L4s
Of course you could have 2 hooks on them all but why bother if you don't have to?
