The Australian Master General Ordnance volume for 1942 has an entry which clarifies the packing of the type of Bren holdall that has a small central pocket which is not big enough to take the filled wallet.
Since the copy held by the Pattern Room Library, that was, was of a very poor quality I have reproduced the layout using contemporary parts, please see below…

c. Return Spring (spare) in special partition.

I. Spare Breech Block (if carried).
J. Wallet Folded (empty) Mk.I.
