Brit.
As soon as I've had chance to photograph my 7.92 I will send the pictures to Kev, and he is more than welcome to post them here.
I assumed the number was an I-, but in light of Kevs 2-, I now think it is a 1-.
I would be interested to hear more about Brens that have had markings removed, as I also have a MkI that appears to have have had its markings removed and a new serial stamped on the top of the action.
Kev. If the picture of the serial number that I sent to you yesterday is good enough to post, please post if for Brit to see.
George.

Cheers George I'll put them up in a bit There is enough tell tale evidence from manufacture that they are Inglis guns, markings have not been removed......they have just not been marked, save for the odd serial number. I'm very interested to see if Georges' has any markes on it from manufacture. Off to do pics BTW, Chris (3) 7.92's ;D

Perhaps when John Inglis ran out of 0T serial numbers they had to make up anew serial range and just added a dash!
It only means I've got to add another coloumn to my database yer buggers!!

Folks.
Stripped her today, and wiped off most of the grease.
There are no visible markings on any of the components. No numbers, inspection marks or anything.
The only exception to this is the bolt, which as pictured earlier in this thread has 7.92 Ix stamped on one side.

Very good From the limited amount I have found out about these 'naked' Brens this appears to be correct. I know there are more of this type out there especially in the US, so anyone out there who also has one please don't be shy and share a bit of info with us

Interestingly all the batches of the boxes that have come on the market haven't got any handles or felt strips to the lid. The only information I have found out about them is that they came in on an American ship up around the Chicago navy base and were put in storage until 1972 when they were sold off in sealed bid auctions. All the 7.92 mag boxes with English writing on them I have seen are new but with no handles etc. They are identical to the WW2 mag boxes with Chinese characters written on them.
Anyone got any info on the English language version 7.92 mag boxes ?

Could the handles on the English marked boxes have been removed (salvaged) for another purpose?
Kev, Do you know if the boxes mentioned contained mags, or if they were sold surplus just as empty boxes?
The box from eBay also has no handle.
The Chinese marked boxes are interesting in that the writing is upside down on all the boxes. Was this by design or in error?

George, the handles on mine and others I have seen have no paint on the handle attachment loops so I pressume they were fitted when new ? I believe even the box in the Canadian War Museum hasn't got a handle ! God knows what the small amount of web could have been used for once the riveted ends had been cut off The boxes were all empty.....no mags I'm afraid. The mags were sold off in Canada (along with the boxes) in bulk packs of 12 .....ironic when the mag box only holds 10 Yep the Mandrin characters are upside down ! ;D I discovered this when my daughters friend had a go at deciphering my Chinese box when I first got it. Maybe all the Inglis Chinese employees were all Cantoneese speakers ;D
