Can anyone with a Clinometer Mortar Mk III and a early Enfield Mk I Bren set up on a tripod try plonking the former on the latter (on the flat area behind the mag catch, next to the drum sight and let me know how well or badly it fits please...
The Americans used a "gunners quadrant" (?) in this way on their M1919A4s /M2 tripods to set elevation.

Ok, lets assume the clino was used with the Tripod and fixed line sight and say the range tables for the Vickers, can any of you Vickers bods say how it would be used in action? A modified version of the drill for the Vickers for indirect fire / night firing /whatever?
No wonder they knocked it on the head once the war started going so badly and we had to stop messing about.
Anyone with a live Bren and bits fancy trying this out? ;-{D)

Looking at the gunners quadrant www.sarcoinc.com/dp19.htmit seams to be a more elaborate/accurate bit of kit compared to the UK Mortar Clino, then again the mortar job was used to drop bombs on peoples head out to 500 odd yards. Its times like this that a bit of practicalexperiance would be right handy! ATB Tom
